A Petunia Face PSA

You know what you should not do if you are feeling the slightest bit hormonal? Or sadish. Or scared or contemplative, if you are feeling neutral to positive even, if you are happy, if you are gurgling over with joy, if you are simply breathing?
You should not watch The Road. Like, ever. Except maybe if you really want to kill yourself and just need that last nudge of confirmation that there is no hope, then yes, you should watch this movie. Otherwise, don't, because Holy Post-Apocalytic Thickened Yellow Toenails, people, I saw this last week at my brother's house and still can't shake the unrelenting bleakness of WTF Happened. Quick! Somebody find me a kitten! Or take me to Target so I can feel safe within the aisles of logos and clean!
Okay, there. That's better. Zoey posing on her Auntie Morgan's pink scooter with and without sparkle stripe helmut.
Carry on.

I read the book and haven't been able to bring myself to watch the movie. It's pretty bleak.

I myself watched The Road and kept asking my hubby the whole time, why he rented this movie? Was he too happy? Did he have to much faith in the human race? It was horible.!! Pappa, Pappa - oiy!!! I like to live in fuzzy bunny land and do not want to think about people trying to eat me or my babies!!!!, lol...

i hear you. my bff, amanda, had me read the book first, THEN we went to see the movie.
i'm still walking around with razor blades and a noose.
i had to go home and watch something happy {schindler's list} to take the edge off.
fuck the apocalypse.

The father and son look exactly like I pictured them when I read the book (before Oprah, thank you...I don't know why it bothers me that it became one-of-those-books-everyone-reads when I discovered it first, but it does. I am an independent thinker, not an Oprah follower, yo!)

And Zoey! I will never again think of lady bikers as double-chinned and big bellied and mulletted.

A while back I was nearly brought to tears just reading the synopsis of that godforsaken book. I will never ever read it, which is too bad because (in spite of inspiring suicidal feelings and disappointingly fruitless peeks into the Spanish-English dictionary) I kind of liked Cormac McCarthy's writing before I decided no good could come of reading him.

Safe to say the movie is not in my Netflix queue.

Yeah, Bryan's been trying to get me to read the book because he loved it so much. After seeing the movie I'd sooner mainline Cyanide.

And "watch something happy {Schindler's List}" = genius.

You must know by now that telling someone to avoid something only ignites her desire and determination to seek it out. I promise to be careful, but now feel an inescapable obligation to rent that movie, or at the very least, read the book. I've always had a macabre fascination with everything dark and bleak, but will put myself in restraints before hitting the "Play" button, just in case. I can always watch an episode or two of "Weeds" afterwards to cheer me up if suicidal ideation overcomes me. . .or merely revisit our Sassy Gay Friend chastizing the Giving Tree for her self-destructive co-dependence. =) That, my dear, was fabulous and something I should have thought of a long time ago. . .

I'm with Bryan. One of the best books I've ever read.

But I refuse to see the movie. I don't think that it could ever do that beautiful book justice...

Do not read the book either unless you need that extra push to suicide as you said with the movie.

I say this every time, but your daughter is the cutest thing ever.

Haven't seen it and definitely won't. But, more importantly, get that girl to a modeling agency! When did she become a little lady?!

I think I read four pages of the book and handed it back to my husband and said, there is absolutely no way i can read this? how come everyone read this book? four pages sent me over the edge - is the world really numb or morbid or am i overemotional? or all of the above. i couldn't take it.
