These Last Few Days (It Was Either I Write This Post Or Keep Her In My Pocket Like George)

We lean into the evenings now, longer, later.

Monday, 6:45pm:
Not 24 hours go by, sick from the boy at the playground, I am sure. He wore no shoes and a thin tee-shirt, sneezing all over the fiberglass turtle as he climbed. Every day, the light of the universe shifted.

Tuesday, 6:02pm
When she is sick she is still, and so I stare at her on the couch because I can. Sometimes it is like holding my breath underwater, how I flail my hands to keep me there. Exhale so that I may sink, it is so peaceful, this place behind her eyes full of everything.

oh so fucking annoyed.
this happens i know. my own is sick at the moment probably from the little boy with a constant runny nose who likes to randomly eat her face at school. i've seen it. it's like watching an old man gum a piece of meat. i witnessed it the first time in from of said boy's mother who cocked her head to the side with casual impatience and a giggle.."caaade...what are you doing?" ha ha isn't he so weird and cute she was thinking. um...am i taking crazy pills??? thought me.

Poor little pumpkin. I know those red eyes well. Although even in sickness, she is still rose-bud lipped long-lashed perfection.

Hope it passes quickly...

Your daughter is absolutely beautiful!! I cried when I read about how you became pregnant and your husband was so shocked it was a girl! I have never really looked forward to the thought of having my own daughter one day until I read it. Maybe it was my PMS or the stress of the oncoming bar exam, but your writing is phenomenal & so real. Anyway, thank you for providing me with wonderful study breaks.

i would take her little hand in both of mine, pat it and say, "little angel, bless your heart..."

Poor little honker. She looks like her head is hot. :(

When my little guy is sick, it's the same combination of sad/adorable.

Oh no!! There is nothing worse than having a sick child, isn't there? It tears you apart seeing your child in pain and when those bubbly talkative personalities become all quiet and withdrawn and aching. I hope that adorable little Petunia face is feeling better in no time.

It's okay, I think I've come to expect the occasional "creepy" from you. Plus, I'd probably let you do it. tee hee

OH SUSANNAH...
I do hope & pray little Zoey feels better soon. There is nothing worse than when they are feeling bad. Makes you just want to scoop them up & hold them forever. Hoping she will be up & running in no time. Take care of her and you!
