Snoooze

Yesterday Zoey announced that she was done with naps which promptly made me tear up not so much because she is growing up but because I have come to rely on our weekend two hour siestas snuggled in the sun on my bed together all sweaty. Seems I had nothing to worry about...

Her teacher sent me this video of her at pre-school, her first self-imposed day without a nap. (In college she is totally going to be the first one to pass out at parties only to wake up with penises drawn on her cheeks in black Sharpie.)

Two hour naps this weekend for everyone!

Yep, nothing much to worry about. What sucks is when your kids are teens and stay up later than you.

I love that her teacher caught that on film for you. Have a good nap. Sigh. My 4 year old gave them up a year ago, but it does free up a lot of time in the afternoons.

OH SUSANNAH...
Best thing EVER!
My 3 yr. old twins just recently gave up their naps too. I cried, literally for a few days. It's fun spending more time with them in the afternoons, but it means that stage of "babyhood" is over (sigh). It all goes too fast Mama...so hold on tight and hears to sticky, sweaty cheek dreams:)

Oh, My Sweet, Precious Zoey,
Here's the best nugget of life- acquired wisdom from Grandma Glitter to you that I have to give.....DO NOT EVER WILLINGLY GIVE UP YOUR NAPS!!! Why? Because you'll never really get them back...and because afternoon naps are THE BEST! When I was young and fossils still roamed the Earth, we still had "Nap Time" in school. I can't remember just when they stopped but I know we still had them the first years of Elementary School. To this day I long for that time again....that enforced quietness and sense of nurturing....that acceptance that sleeping during the day was good not BAD, not a sign of laziness as it has seemed to be ever since. Oh, how I wish that each day, a sweet someone would give out graham crakers and milk and tell me to go to my cubby and get my pallet for Nap Time. Well, Miss Z. there comes a time all too soon when that just won't happen again. "Nap Time, pallets and graham crackers and milk" will be taken away never to return. Believe Grandma Glitter when she says....DO NOT willingly give that away. Hang on tight to Nappie Time for your sake and your Mom's- because she only gets these naps by your proxy.
And here's another tip for years from now...daytime naps tend to result in the MOST erotic dreams-just another perk to the glory that is sleeping and having one's bed as the safest, most comforting place on the face of the Earth.
Love You Fiercly,
Grandma Glitter

That video of her is pretty much how I feel all the time and it's been over 30 years since I gave up naps.

I don't recommend it.

So cute... and funny! I still make my 5 yr old have "quiet time" every day. Some days he plays, and occasionally he passes out.

This is precious. So cute when they try to act grown up but you still have your little girl. She's a girl after my own heart, sharpie artistry is character building.
