In the 7th grade it was cool to sign yearbooks with “stay gold.” (It was not cool, however, to recite the actual Robert Frost poem to the cute boy who smoked pot even if he did kind of have boobs and never grew taller after 13. Lesson learned.) Nature's first green is gold, / Her hardest hue to hold. / Her early leaf's a flower, / But only so an hour. / Then leaf subsides to leaf, / So Eden sank to grief. / So dawn goes down to day, / Nothing gold can stay. God, how I loved me some Dallas. Still do.
Happy weekend. Stay gold, Ponyboy, stay gold.

Love it.
Stay gold is my new go to phrase.
Awesome photos! Loved the book; a friend and I watched the movie on cable at a cute guy's house after school (I wasn't supposed to be there), so I don't remember the movie. tee hee
Patrick Swayze photo made me sad. :sniff: Rob Lowe is still and always hot-hot-hot.
I def plan to go see the new Karate Kid movie. :)
xo
How f*@#ing old AM I ?????????????? ugh.
I too am still sad over Patrick Swayze.
I think I'll go lay on the couch.
Me too! I wanted to jump right into that book, then movie and live there forever.
Make new friends
But keep the old
one is silver
and the other is gold.
Girl Scouts bitches! I don't know if Robby Frost can stand the heat.
loooooooovvvvvvved that movie! thank you for making me 13 again, for a few minutes
I read that book 13 times, and probably saw the movie as many. They were so hot. I totally would have written stay gold in your yearbook.
why aren't more children named sodapop these days?
Ok, you have everyone EXCEPT "Pony Boy!" How can you put Steve-O where C. Thomas Howell should be?!!!
bro
You kill me. I'll be dreaming of these pics tonight.
I found you via another blog (Maggie's Flux Capacitor).
Love this post. That movie changed my youth in many ways, it grew me up in many ways, too.
Stay gold was our equivalent of carpe diem. And still, in many ways, still is.
Andy (Oh Brother! of mine)--that is not Steve-O. It's C. Thomas Howell, I swear. Wanna' make a bet? A million dollars (not doll hairs as you used to say)?
Also, full disclosure, I didn't Photoshop that particular "where are they now." I found somewhere on the glorious www, though I have seen pics of C. Thomas Howell and that IS him.
Everyone else: my brother used to look exactly like C. Thomas Howell. Like in Red Dawn, even Soul Man. He also looked like the kid from "Escape from Witch Mountain," just in case you need to put a face to the name Oh Brother.

Matt Dillon was the best "bad boy." Loved him in Tex and he was smokin hot in Rumble Fish.
