Six good friends who happened to be same sex couples got married today. In total, these three couples had been with their mates for 63 years. Today they finally were able to pledge to each other in matrimony- lawfully in this State. What a gloriously, historic day it was-for them and for all of us. Sadly, it took this long for them to be able to do so. Ironically, it was big news. Shamefully, they do not have Federal endorsement so they can't file taxes as a married couple, they can't access each other's Social Security benefits-or any Federal benefits of matrimony-like Family Medical Leave Act, etc.. Outside of CA, they can't be at each other's bedside in an ICU. And, as delighted as they are that this day has finally come, they all know that the gay-bashing will be ramped up because of this victory for human rights. And still I heard them each say that this was the best day in their lives. Thank you for recognizing what a joyous, landmark day this is for so many people...people of ALL persuasions. And a HUGE congratulations to all those who waited and loved and fought to be recognized as married.
wow. amazing. This even made news here (adelaide, australia) - and so it should. I love a good love story. I agree with charlee Palmer's six year old "love is love". x
how anyone could see photos like these and hear these stories of love and partnership and then possibly come to a conclusion that this could be a negative thing for society (especially amongst all the other such horrible things going on!?) is beyond me.
I'm so encouraged when I hear these words of encouragement here in your comment section but then wonder: what do the roughly 75% who oppose this think? I swear sometimes it feels like 100% I would really love to hear their comments (as a gay man). More specifically, everyone FOR it can offer up the WHY they are glad as we see here - people opposed to it always seem to just say 'because' or have no reasoning behind it (cough, cough, MCcain, cough)
Hi there - delurker for a while to your site, found you from Jules at P & FF and can't remember if I've ever posted but I probably check your blog at least once a day. I really enjoy your writing style and appreciate your sense of humor. I'm still trying to put together my celebrity crushes and wil post sometime this week on my blog... Anywho - I look forward to the day when same sex marriages are a common, ever day event.
Hi, I'm Susannah and I love shiny things, swimming, the smell of fresh cut grass, orange blossoms and horse shit. The feel of my children's eyelashes on my cheek is a live virus that grows in me, multiplies and sustains. I will never understand Amish Friendship Bread.
I write for love but money works, too. Email me for more info, or just to say hello.

Seriously... what a great thing. I am coming back out for a wedding in September and all I can say is, IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!
Oh, wow, I hadn't seen that picture. The heart just soars, doesn't it?
I am grateful for each and every person who had hoped to live to see this day.
That's a great picture. I'm so happy for them. Hooray for love.
Its just great that they were able to do it in their lifetime. They have aged so much since 4 years ago...
...yes, about damn time!
This is a shining example for the closed minded religious right to possibly "get it"! As my 6 year old daughter says "love is love".

I couldn't have said it any better. Hallalujah, love prevails!
Judy says it all, as usual. Can she be my mom too?

Yay for LOVE, yay for LIFE, yay for CHOICE, yay for CONNECTING, yay for THIS!!!
with love from Pittsburgh...
I totally agree. It is about time the rest of the country followed suit!

cheers to love!

That picture made me cry too. It's about love, really, with a happy ending.
This story got me teary. I can't believe that this sort of thing has taken so long to be considered even sub-normal.

Things like this keep reminding me why I'm so lucky to live in this great city, and why there's still hope for this country.
