Day +19 My First Ever Vlog! Working Title: I've Got Your Vax (But Do You Have Mine?)

Okay, first of all, disclaimers:

One shot, no editing, iPhone propped on top of a tower made up of my suitcase, a toaster oven box, and one pillow.

I'm obviously still bored.

Terrible, garish hotel room lighting does nothing for forehead wrinkles.

Apparently when in front of a camera I do the weird lopsided Drew Barrymore mouth. Sorry.

Here we go.

I would say I hope I don't offend anyone, but that would be a lie. The truth is I am angry about this issue, and if you don't agree with me then I want you to not necessarily be offended, but to at least think about it from my point of view, my immune system.

I think we have gotten so far from the reality of what these diseases can do, what they did before vaccines rendered them almost obsolete, which is killed thousands of children; we have gotten so comfortable with Walgreens and children's Tylenol that we don't even know what to be afraid of anymore, who the enemy is. The enemy here is not vaccines and it's not science; it's our own self-righteous complacency.

Anyhoo, (sideways mouth). Tomorrow I find out exactly when I get to fly home. And I'm scared. Of home. Said the girl who rides in Israeli cabs with men who shoot at boys.

xo,
S

Brilliant Susannah - I totally agree with you on this subject! Given that kids schools are hotspots for picking up illnesses and bringing them home, I too would be scared and angry! I do hope you will get the green light to go home though to love on your family.

I agree 100%. I take an herbal tincture to keep my immune system strong to prevent melanoma coming back. It has worked for me for 17 years. I don't want the kids I love to be around to infect me or my family. I hope you get home soon and know that your kids are already trained to use the hand sanitizer all the time. They will be ready!

Thanks guys. It's kind of scary to put myself on my blog (not to mention YouTube) with something so controversial. I anticipate some trolling.

However, logic, science and FACT are on my side, and believe me I've got them lined up and ready to go, so I'm armed. :)

After all these years, it's great to see AND hear you.

Wishing you good news this week.

Face made for radio and a delivery made for the keyboard, but it had to be said. Though I swear I don't really speak that way in real life, sound that way. Do I?

Namaste, motherfucker. Haha. That is a great line, I may use it one day.

I 100% agree, Susannah. Vaccines are for the benefit of the public. All of us. Melinda Gates had a good quote the other day when she said something like "I think people have forgotten what a measles death looks like.", when asked about the current vaccination situation.

Have a safe journey home, whenever you are set free.

I agree as well. All these non-vaccinators jeopardize the health of so many others and I hope people start suing them for giving diseases to others. Maybe when it starts hurting their wallet, they'll oblige. Nothing else will penetrate them.
Every time these so called "celebrities" start mouthing off that they're against vaccinating while only being able to read from a script and having rarely finished high school, I would love to reach through my TV and shake them senseless.
I was the first one in line to get my chickenpox vaccination since I never had it as a child and I sure didn't want to get it as an adult - I am grateful I was able to get vaccinated and I am grateful that my daughter's school was so diligent about immunization records. No kid was allowed in school without proper immunization records. All schools should make this mandatory without exception. Who cares about their nonsense belief, once it jeopardizes other people's health, to hell with it.

Start penalizing parents who won't vaccinate their kids. It's their kids who suffer too and parents should be charged for child endangerment and negligence.

It's terribly irresponsible behavior.

Namaste mother fuckers is probably the best thing I've heard today! I agree one-billion percent with with you. It's so mind boggling to me that this even has to be a discussion in 20-mother fucking-15. Instead of meditating on whether or not to do the right thing and vaccinate your children, how about they do some actual research. If they did, maybe then they would read about how out of the 10 doctors that wrote the report linking vaccinations to autism, 9 of them later came forward and basically said, "oops, our bad, we were wrong".

As my husband noted, we are required to have our dog up-to-date on shots before we drop him off for doggie daycare but people can drop off their kids at school without the same protection. Crazy. My dog has been protection that you. I will check to see if there are any openings at Top Dog Country Club for dogs in case you are interested. It may be safer than Marin County. Good luck tomorrow.

Oops, it should have said my dog has MORE protection than you. Watching the Super Bowl while typing is not conducive to tip-top editing.

Priceless. I live north of you in an Oregon town with a bunch of supposedly educated yet seriously crunchy, white, entitled people who like to meditate on things like this (I am also white, eductate and entitled but know it, so I feel like that makes me ok. Plus I believe in stuff like---ah, SCIENCE, so I vaccinate).

Peace and herd immunity be with you.

Fingers crossed for you tomorrow!!!!

Maybe SNL hasn't picked up on it yet, but The Onion has (http://www.theonion.com/articles/i-dont-vaccinate-my-child-because-its-my-right-to,37839/). And basically they said the same thing you did. That these families are choosing to potentially kill other people. Awesome. Thanks for putting a beautiful face to the most at risk group.

Maybe if these parents spent a bit less time meditating (gag) and a smidge more time reading and talking with actual doctors/scientists about the subject, we wouldn't be in this predicament. Good luck with your numbers!

I couldn't agree with you more! Your bravery these past weeks/months is so commendable and honorable. Good Luck today!

P.S. I signed a petition today that would require all children in CA public schools to be vaccinated.

We love you Susannah. Your composure is amazing in your situation. Even when you're serious, you can make me smile or laugh. We can't wait to welcome you home! Your writing is going to take you on a new journey. Love Sheryl & Laurel

The best argument against vaccinating I've heard was "we don't need to vaccinate because we don't have those diseases anymore."

BECAUSE OF VACCINATIONS, YOU MORON.

Namaste Motherfucker: the title of your memoir. Perfect, yes? Write that book already!

My mind is BLOWN by all of the small-minded people who don't vaccinate their kids. Marin seems to be full of intelligent CEO's, etc, who should be smarter than that. I'm sorry to hear that something that should be so exciting is so scary. What's scarier is that there are idiots out there who would rather their children be killed by a disease than give them a needle. Being one who faints (big time) from needles, I've still had all of the appropriate vaccinations and then some. Plus, isn't it kind of COUNTER EVOLUTIONARY that these people are reverting back to 1915 when we weren't blessed with modern medicine? Don't they know how much they're paying for their medical coverage? This includes VACCINES, you fools, so you don't get yourself and others sick. Kills me. Safe travels home, we're all excited to give you a big hug when you get here.
